Kings dominant in 9-3 win over Yorba Linda

Sophomore Grant Giuliano filled in for injured Wyatt Rieden and recorded 9 saves (.750 SV%)
The Sea Kings traveled to Yorba Linda on Tuesday evening for a critical non-conference CIF Southern Section Division I match-up. CDM dominated possession, played nearly flawless defense, and took a 9-0 lead into the fourth quarter, eventually winning 9-3. Going into the contest, the Sea Kings were ranked fifth in Division I, while the Mustangs were ranked sixth.

Sophomore Grant Giuliano replaced an injured Wyatt Rieden in goal and was brilliant, turning back a number of Mustang shots right on the doorstep. Giuliano ended the night with nine saves, earning a .750 Save Percentage. In his two starts (Santa Margarita and Yorba Linda), Giuliano has an impressive 3.0 GAA (Goals Against Average).

"Tonight was about resiliency and overcoming adversity," remarked CDM head coach G.W. Mix. "We had a couple of key guys who could not go for us tonight and their replacements did a great job. Grant Giuliano did extremely well in the goal and Lucas Newton played brilliantly at attack rather than his usual midfield spot. Logan took a big burden off of Lucas at the face off spot and guys like Jack Beyerle (SR/DEF), Peyton Tingley (JR/ATT), and Nic Peloso (JR/ATT) really stepped up and made big plays."

The Sea Kings have two more Sunset League games to finish off the week with a 4:00 PM game at Marina on Wednesday and a 3:30 PM home game on Friday against Huntington.

With Tuesday's win, CDM improves its record to 8-3 overall.
