Torrential reign: CDM beats Santa Margarita 12-3

'twas a wee bit wet and muddy out there today against Santa Margarita
On a rain soaked and wind blown bluff above the Pacific, the Sea Kings emerged from this afternoon's game Santa Margarita with an impressive 12-3 win. Junior attackman Casey Mix and senior midfielder Michael Keasey each had three goals and an assist to lead CDM in today's critical non-league contest.

"Our kids did a terrific job of managing the game," CDM head coach G.W. Mix said afterward. "The conditions today were far more comfortable for me and the rest of the staff than they were for the kids, but they were very determined to show people we can play lacrosse at a pretty high level."

CDM's coaching staff is a collection of old school knuckleheads from the east coast. Mix, played and coached at the University of Pennsylvania. Offensive Coach Jeremy Sieverts played at Maryland, defensive coach Devin Arkison played at Hobart in up-state New York, Andy Chalupa (Pfeiffer) and Mike Ortlieb (South Carolina) played in the Carolinas and goalie coach Tim Cassi played at Kings College in Pennsylvania.

"For Devo, Jeremy and the rest of us, this was a much welcomed spring day where we played. There was never a doubt in our minds we should play the game and the kids were right there with us. Our indifference to the conditions was a reflection of the attitude of these kids. They just want to play the game, play it hard and see what happens."

Taylor Epp (Sr./Midfield) enabled the Kings to virtually play "make it - take it" for the majority of the game, winning seventeen of nineteen face-offs (.894%).

"Taylor was a huge key to our success this afternoon," Mix said. "He enabled us to control possessions and never let them go on a multiple goal run. Thoses types of performances are so critical in big games."

Throughout the game, Michael Ortlieb (Sr./Goalie) did his part to make certain Santa Margarita woud never close the gap, finishing with ten saves (.769%), several of which fell into the spectacular category.

Next for the Sea Kings is a Pacific Coast League game against Northwood at home on Monday at 3:15 PM.
