CDM defeats Agoura 15-9 to advance to CIF Quarters

Juniors Lucas Newton and Logan Ip combined to win 10 face-offs in this critical CIF Round 2 match-up
CDM won it's first official CIF Southern Section boys lacrosse playoff game by defeating Agoura 15-9 in Round 2 of the 2021 tournament (CDM earned a bye in the first round). With the win, the Sea Kings advance to the quarterfinals on Tuesday, June 1 against St. Margaret's at 6:00 PM at CDM.

"This was a memorable night for our program," commented CDM head coach G.W. Mix. "We have been fortunate enough to be among the top five programs in Division I of the Southern Section for quite a while (since 2007). It was nice to have a chance to defend that position in a CIF playoff game. I have known Sean Lindsay (Agoura head coach) for a long time. He played for me on the L.A. Riptide (MLL 2006-08). To see former pro lacrosse players giving back to our game is special. We knew they would be tough, well-coached and well-prepared and they were all of that and then some. It was a memorable night for so many reasons."

Sophomore midfielder Gavin Gossen scored three goals in the CIF win.

Junior midfielder Logan Ip led the Sea Kings with four goals and two assists. Lucas Newton added three goals and three assists, while sophomore Gavin Gossen recorded three goals and an assist.

Sophomore goalie Grant Giuliana had four big saves in the fourth quarter to help seal the victory.

After a 1-1 tie at the end of the first quarter, CDM led 5-3 at the half and 10-6 at the end of three periods. The Sea Kings outscored the Chargers 5-3 in the fourth to notch the 15-9 CIF playoff win.

Up next for CDM is a quarterfinal match-up at home against St. Margaret's on Tuesday, June 1 at 6:00 PM.
