CDM improves to 4-1 with 18-3 win

Senior attackman Shawn Frome scored three goals and added two assists against Santa Margarita
 After a surprise loss on Tuesday, March 30 to Tesoro 9-7, the Sea Kings have run off three straight impressive wins over traditional top ten Orange County teams. On Saturday, April 10, the Kings traveled to San Clemente and earned an 18-8 victory. On Wednesday, CDM toppled Trabuco Hills 18-3 and wrapped up the week recording the same 18-3 score against Santa Margarita Catholic on Friday evening. With the wins, CDM improves its overall record to 4-1.

In the first of its three straight wins, CDM jumped out to a 10-0 lead over host San Clemente, maintained an 11-3 lead at the intermission, and then extended the lead to 17-4 at the end of three quarters. Junior attackman Ty Caffarelli led all scorers with seven goals and an assist. 

In its mid-week game with Trabco Hills, the Sea Kings jumped out to a 4-0 lead and built upon it to lead 7-1 at the end of the first period. Junior Ty Caffarelli and Sophomore Gavin Gossen both had two goals in the opening period. Senior attackman Shawn Frome and junior midfielder Logan Ip each had two tallies in the second to help increase CDM's lead to 11-2 at the half. Senior netminder Wyatt Rieden was stellar between the pipes, recording 8 saves and alowing just two goals (.800%).

On Friday evening, CDM jumped all over Santa Margarita from the start, scoring the first 11 goals of the game and taking a 14-1 lead into the half-time break and expanding the lead to 17-1 at the end of three periods. Sophomore Gavin Gossen led all goal scorers with four goals and an assist, while Ty Caffarelli recorded four goals. Senior Shawn Frome had an impressive evening with three goals and a pair of assists. Juniors Logan Ip (2G, 3A) and Lucas Newton (2G, 2A) had yet another steady and productive night while Newton was also a dominating force at the face-off X.

Perhaps most impressive for the Sea Kings on Friday evening was the debut of sophomore goaltender Grant Giuliano (7 saves, 2 GA , .777%). Giuliano stepped in for senior starter Wyatt Rieden who was out of town for a family wedding.
